This phase of design in thesis led me to doing research papers, research on specific joints, precedents in Japan, the use of wood and specific types of wood in Japan, and projects that use wood in a structural yet elegant manner as well.
Researching during this phase was key, because I needed every single piece of information possible in order to pull a project like this one off. Materials, structural use, durability, sustainability, cost, and aesthetics are at the forefront of this design concept for thesis.
